Yamunotri Dham

Nestled in the pristine Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India, Yamunotri Dham is a revered pilgrimage site, marking the origin of the sacred Yamuna River. At an altitude of approximately 3,293 meters (10,804 feet) above sea level, this sacred shrine is the first stop in the Chota Char Dham Yatra, followed by Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.

Yamunotri finds its roots in Hindu mythology, where it is believed to be the home of the goddess Yamuna, the daughter of the sun god Surya and sister of Yama, the god of death. The temple dedicated to Yamuna is believed to have been constructed by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur in the 19th century.
